Bernard A. “Bruno” Wolcyn

Age 100 of Arden Hills passed away peacefully on March 2, 2013. He was born on October 6, 1912 in St. Paul, MN. He attended Cretin High School graduating in 1931, he received a degree in Physical Education in 1935 from the University of Minnesota and attained a PHD in Public Health from New York University in 1949.

Baseball was a huge part of his life in his younger years. He played baseball for Cretin High School and the University of MN. He also played professional baseball with the Minneapolis Millers and the Detroit Tigers in the 30’s and 40’s. Bruno was a veteran serving in the U.S. Coast Guard. He retired from the MN Dept. of Health in 1974.

Among his interests were raising Christmas trees, helping his son, Tom, on his tree farm, fishing and spending time with his family. Bruno was a longtime member of the Minnesota Tree Growers Association.

Left to mourn his passing are his loving wife of 69 years, Deloris; children, Mary (Pete) Larsen, Tom (Adie); grandchildren, Eric, Nick (Heather), Ben (Becky), Clint (Angela), Bobby; 4 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial 11AM, Wednesday, 3/5/13, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, New Brighton. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to Mass at the church. Private interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery

In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to Siena Wolcyn, to offset medical expenses. Siena, a 22 month old great-granddaughter of Bernard’s was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in March of 2012.
