Lawrence Henry Lockman

U.S. Veteran

Lawrence (Larry) Henry Lockman was born August 28, 1927, the son of Harry Henry and Mary (Vanger) Lockman in Faribault Township of Rice County, MN. He was born and raised in Faribault and attended the Faribault Schools. Larry enlisted in the United States Army on Nov. 27, 1945. He proudly served his Country as a SGT in Germany and was honorably discharged on Feb 17, 1947. Larry was a Construction Foreman who supervised & directed the handling of supplies & material construction of warehouse and received a Victory medal.

Following his honorable discharge from the Army, he worked at “Prinzing’s” Fruit & Vegetable Market in Faribault, Owatonna & Austin. Larry married Ethel M. Hrabik on Jan. 7, 1948 in Faribault, MN. They made their home in St. Paul/Mpls, then settled in Albert Lea and then managed the “Prinzing’s” Fruit Market until they closed. Larry also worked at Western Grocery, then Gateway Foods in Mpls.

Larry loved to fish on Rush Lake with his family and also had a fascination with automobiles. Larry was known for sharpening everyone’s knives and carving the holiday meats. He loved to make woodworking items like birdhouses, Santa’s, planters & furniture. Larry enjoyed going to craft shows and was in the background sketching the items and then came home and started making those items for gifts for the family. The family always knew what we were all getting for a gift after the 1st one opened their presents as we would all get the same.

One of Larry’s famous words was “Okay”. Larry was a sweet, gentle, strong willed, and polite man, husband, father and grandfather.

Surviving family includes: wife of 65 years, Ethel, children, Priscilla Douglas, David (Kathy) Lockman, Pam (Dennis) Schmidt, grandchildren, David (Amy) Lockman, Kelly (Jerry) Randash, Kevin Lockman, Amie (David) Fehn, Michael (Amy) Lockman, Paul Lockman, Rachel(Steven Lehner) Schmidt, Andrea (Elvis) Mitchell, Jessica (Peter) Conway and 13 great grandchildren.

Larry was proceeded in death by his parents and 2 sisters.

Memorial Service 4 PM, Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at Methven-Taylor Funeral Home, 850 East Main Street, Anoka, with visitation starting at 3PM.

Private Family interment@ Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
